After completing his PhD in 1993, he was appointed Lecturer same year, then became Associate Professor in 1999, before being appointed Full Professor at Centrale Lille Institut in 2003.
In 2015, he was awarded the prestigious ERC Advanced Grant for his FireBar-Concept project (with a €2.5 million budget). In 2026, he received the prestigious ERC Synergy Grant for the FireSpace project, in collaboration with Ghent University, the University of Bremen, and Sorbonne University (with a €14 million budget).
He became a member of the Institut Universitaire de France (IUF) in 2020, with a renewal in 2025.
His research focuses on the reaction and fire resistance of polymer materials. It includes material processing as well as the assessment of fire behaviour under complex and extreme conditions (battery fires, hydrogen-related fires, and microgravity environments), while also developing characterization methods and novel measurement approaches.
His work is structured around two main axes:
- Processing of filled materials and coatings (synergy and formulation, reactive extrusion, nanocomposites, spectrochemistry);
- Similarity and modelling (scale reduction and dimensional analysis, kinetic analysis, pyrolysis modelling).
