Jean-Marie Citerne

Since 2005, Jean‑Marie Citerne has been designing, developing, and implementing complex experimental devices for constrained environments and specific operating conditions. As a research engineer at the Institut Jean‑le‑Rond‑d’Alembert, he works at the interface between instrumentation, metrology, applied physics, and systems engineering, ensuring the design, operation, and continuous evolution of complete experimental chains.

His work relies on an in‑depth command of engineering techniques (optics, automation, embedded computing, mechanics), advanced metrology, and characterization and observation methods tailored to the scientific challenges of his field. He oversees the entire lifecycle of experimental devices: needs analysis, definition of measurement methods, drafting and negotiation of technical specifications, project supervision, metrological qualification, operation, and user training.

He has notably designed and developed three experimental devices dedicated to parabolic flight — Diamons, Unburnit, and Télémaque — embarqued instruments intended for the study of physical phenomena in microgravity. These projects led him to develop robust instrumental architectures, integrated measurement systems, and experimental protocols adapted to the constraints of flight, in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.

His work follows an integrated approach that combines instrumental innovation, scientific rigor, and a precise understanding of operational constraints. He also conducts active technological monitoring, contributes to the dissemination and valorization of experimental achievements, and serves as a technical reference and advisor in his field of expertise, including within collaborative or international projects.
