Jonathan Pleitner contributes to the development, preparation and continuous improvement of experimental systems within the FireSpace project. His first task at ZARM is to develop, integrate and test a new drop tower capsule tailored to the requirements of the FireSpace experiments, with a particular focus on combustion chamber design, usability and reliable operation. In close collaboration with ZARM researchers and project partners, he also contributes to experiment design by linking observations of material behaviour, process conditions and system interactions to practical improvements in the experimental setup.
Jonathan is a mechanical engineer with a background in aerospace engineering (B.Sc.) and engineering design (M.A.). Before joining ZARM, he worked in product development, applied research and precision mechanical assembly. At Schindelhauer Bikes, he contributed to the development and integration of mechanical and electromechanical systems from concept to prototype and series implementation. At the Institute of Building Construction and Timber Structures (IBHolz) at TU Braunschweig, he coordinated an interdisciplinary research project on the reuse of reclaimed timber, combining material evaluation, practical processing methods and cooperation with research and industry partners.
His professional experience covers mechanical development, experimental setups, system integration, testing and hands-on technical implementation. This combination allows him to approach experimental hardware not only from a design perspective, but also with a strong awareness of assembly, operation, reproducibility, material behaviour and practical failure modes.
